That makes sense. Does that approach require a re-install of all apps and user data? Also, will I be caught out with license key issues.
Will the new install work with the old keys? If so, how do I recover the keys so I have them available? For me this is not an urgent issue. I might hold off to see if something emerges that simply clears the roadblock to the normal update proceeding. The in-place Upgrade keeps your files, apps and most settings in place. The only reason it won't offer this is if the install is too corrupted, the main reason Windows won't upgrade to new versions. I gave you that easier option rather than the list of repairs to get Windows Update working, because if the Upgrade installs it will solve all such problems.
